Preparing your family

Prepare your family

Make a family preparedness plan

  • Memorize important phone numbers (family, lawyer, rapid response hotline) in case your phone is taken.
  • Keep copies of important documents (passports, birth certificates, immigration papers) in a safe place, and let a trusted person know where.
  • Save money for possible legal fees and bond.
  • Arrange who will care for your children if you are detained, and give that person written authorization.
  • Consider a power of attorney so someone can handle your affairs.
  • Talk to an immigration attorney before any emergency about your options.
