What this is and who it's for

Al Tanto is a bilingual community safety tool for Fairfield County, Connecticut. It lets neighbors anonymously share and view public reports of immigration enforcement activity, so communities can stay informed and look out for one another. It is built for residents — especially immigrant communities and their allies — as well as journalists and researchers.

How reports are verified

Every report starts as 'Pending review' in a moderator queue. Trained moderators review each one and Publish it, Reject it (with a recorded reason), or hold it. Community members can Confirm or Dispute a published report. When two or more distinct people confirm a report, its confidence rises to 'Corroborated by community.' A report confirmed by a partner organization reaches 'Confirmed by partner organization.' The three confidence levels are: Single unverified report; Corroborated by community; Confirmed by partner organization.

What data we collect — and what we don't

You do not need an account to view or report. No personal information is attached to your report — no names, emails, phone numbers, or IP addresses. Locations are approximate: coordinates are snapped to a roughly 200-meter grid, so a pin never points to a specific home. Reports and all related corroboration data are automatically deleted 30 days after the report is created. Email addresses are stored only for people who subscribe to alerts, used only to send alerts, and deleted immediately when you unsubscribe.

What this app does not do

Al Tanto does not track or identify individual officers. It does not publish names, badge numbers, license plates, or images of people. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any government agency — including ICE or local police. It is a community-run project.
