At school
Your rights at school
- Schools are generally a protected location, but agents may still attempt to approach. Know your rights in advance.
- Students and parents have the right to remain silent and do not have to answer questions about immigration status.
- Children do not have to answer questions about where they or their parents were born.
- You can ask to speak with a lawyer and to have a parent present before answering.
Prepare in advance
- Keep your child's emergency contacts and your family plan up to date with the school.
- Tell the school in writing who is allowed to pick up your child if you are unavailable.
