Back to rights

If ICE comes to your door

If immigration agents come to your door

You have rights inside your home

  • You do not have to open the door. Keep it closed.
  • If agents say they have a warrant, ask them to slide it under the door or hold it up to a window. A valid warrant must be signed by a judge. An ICE "administrative warrant" alone is not enough to enter without your consent.
  • You may say through the closed door: "I am exercising my right to remain silent. I do not consent to your entry."

Stay calm

  • You have the right to remain silent. You do not have to answer questions about your status, birthplace, or how you entered.
  • Do not lie or show false documents.
  • Do not sign anything without talking to a lawyer first.
  • You can slide a red card under the door.
